After working with artist [Elise Stewart](https://www.boundaryway.co.uk/associate-artists/artist-profiles/elise-stewart/) on her brilliant [Beyondness of Bees Project](https://www.boundaryway.co.uk/2019/04/30/beyondness-of-bees-exhibition-enchants-visitors/), we are delighted to announce that she will be returning to Boundary Way to offer visitors exciting and unique opportunities to investigate and creatively respond to the world of fungi.
Elise will be running three separate, fascinating workshops, allowing participants to explore a variety of textile art techniques, including stitch and rusting, and we can't wait to see the outcomes. The three exploratory sessions will allow participants of all skill levels to create bold, fungi and nature inspired work led by Elise, who is currently the Chair of the Wolverhampton Branch of the Embroiderer's Guild. The sessions will be accessible and full instruction will be provided by Elise, who will also be providing all of the materials for these exciting days. At the end of the sessions there will be an opportunity for work to be exhibited at our Fungi Themed Open Day on 7th September. If participants wish to get involved, their work will be exhibited alongside work from local artists, school children and the Embroiderer's Guild, who we are partnering with on our Magnifying Mushrooms Project. So, how does each workshop differ?
- 8th June 2019: Introductory Workshop. In this introductory workshop participants will explore the intricate underground world of fungi through learning a simple but effective stitch technique. No previous experience of stitch is required for this fun start into textile art, suitable for ages 14+.
- 23rd June: Stitch & Rust Dyeing. Participants will be taught how to use fabric manipulation techniques to make samples based on the intricate gills on fungi. Then the samples will be rusted to create fabulous natural patterns replicating decay processes in nature. All materials and full instructions provided, suitable for ages 14+.
- 7th July: Markmaking in Stitch. Participants will be taught to examine intricate shapes and patterns of fungi as a source of inspiration. We will then explore how to make marks to represent these. This will be translated into a stitched piece using fabric and thread. All materials and full instructions provided, suitable for ages 14+.
