This year we celebrated Earth Day in style with a day celebrating the nature and heritage of Boundary. It was a fun and successful day of creativity, exploration, photography and discovery. Didn’t make it to see us? Don’t worry because today we are going to give you a run down of everything that went on!
So, what did we get up to last Sunday? !Growing Memories Talkv Growing Memories Talk[/caption] We kicked off the day with an inspiring talk surrounding the theme of ‘Growing Memories’, given by Moya Lloyd, Geoff Broadway and Maria Billington – the team that have been working on discovering the heritage of our site. The audience loved hearing about the progression of the Boundary Way Project from Moya, followed by some information about Geoff’s new and exciting local photography and heritage project, Living Memory, as well as his work on our upcoming Boundary Way film. It was also lovely to listen to herbalist, Maria explaining her mapping of the natural heritage of the Community Garden and everything she has discovered. !Maria shares her findings Maria Billington shares her findings[/caption] Maria continued to show people the power of plants in a natural tea tasting session, which took place in the orchard following the talk. Maria helped everyone to choose the herbal tea that was perfect for them, all whilst answering questions about the uses of plants on site and in the concoctions. It went down a treat, as tea always does around here! !Tea Tasting Tea Tasting[/caption] Our visitors then took their teas to the other side of the orchard to join artist Hannah Boyd in a toolmaking session using natural and found materials. We were so pleased that Hannah was able to repeat this amazing session for Earth Day (see her previous session here) and everyone had so much fun creating bright Spring tools throughout the afternoon. We even got around to some doing some mark making with them and it was really exciting to see how different tools created such individual marks. 
The day was rounded off by a return visit from our past environmental Artist In Residence, Richard Shilling, who delivered an inspirational Nature Art Workshop for a group of our visitors. We were delighted to welcome him & Julia Brooklyn back for more land art fun and the workshop went down a treat with many amazing creations coming to life, created from natural materials such as twigs and leaves. !Land Art and Toolmaking in the Orchard Land Art and Toolmaking in the Orchard[/caption] Want to visit Boundary Way for yourself?
